Water Power - new schemes, old ideas

Our August walk took in the new community hydro scheme above West End

On a fine August day, David Fox led a band of interested walkers across moors and farmland, from the Hoodstorth Bridge area to Bramley Head. Their main focus was on the modern hydroelectric equipment which uses the water from Harry's dam - originally built to  supply one of the four West End mills in the 19thC - to generate electricity for the host farm and feed it into the National Grid. Back at the Centre, all enjoyed a well-earned and tasty lunch, thanks to Pat Anderson and Jill Cox.
